Welcome to the Rum Howler Blog!

Posted by Arctic Wolf on October 17, 2009

This blog is designed for the publication of my Rum and Whisky Reviews as well as for reviews and ratings of other distilled spirits. You can navigate the reviews using the Menus on the right and left side of the blog, or by using the tabs at the top of the page. Each review contains a rating or score out of 100.

As well, I have recipe sections based upon the recipes/cocktails I suggest for the spirits I review.  Most of the recipes you will encounter both in my reviews and in the recipe sections are of my own design, rather than recipes you can find in any good cocktail book or on the majority of other cocktail recipe sites on the internet.

Have fun and please leave comments where you feel you have something to contribute or want something clarified. All comments are moderated, only those comments which contribute useful information are published. comments containing spam, or foul language are automatically deleted as are comments which serve no useful purpose.

If you are involved in the Spirits Industry wish to contact myself regarding my reviews please use the Contact Me tab at the top of the page.

Great site! How much is a bottle of the 1979 Black Velvet Canadian whisky?

Hi, Wondering if any one can tell me what the best type of glass is for drinking rum? Thinking of sipping and not cocktails. Is there such thing as a “Rum Glass”?

    • I like to use a small rocks glass or a glencairn glass. The rocks glass works well especially if you might add ice. The glencairn is great if you like to nose your rum as you drink it.

However, a wise man once said, “the best glass for sipping rum is the one which actually has rum in it!”

Great site. You’ve got a great appreciation for rum (and other spirits), that is clear. Thanks for sharing your experience. I’d love to contribute to your site, and review some of my favorite rums: Goslings Extra Old, Barbancourt 8yr and 15 yr, El Dorado 15 yr, Vizcaya, and Angostura’s rums.

    • Thanks Ed

I have a section in the extras for reader reviews. You could be the first contributor. Try to put one of your reviews in the comments section there and I will have a look at it. (I’m not sure how many characters the site will allow you to use in a comment but try it and see.)

Chip, I’m linking to your reviews from the National Rum Examiner site. Nice work.

Hi, nice to see you in the blogosphere! I have linked you on my site, and i see you have done the same, cheers!

    • Hi Tiare

It is nice to see you. I was going to send all the sites I linked to a little note, but it just seemed so self serving that I gave up after a few halfhearted attempts, so I just decided to link to sites I liked. Yours site is definitely one that I like a lot. But thanks for the link back it is appreciated.
