Rum Manhattan
Rum Manhattan
2 oz Well Aged Dark Rum
1/2 oz of Sweet Red Vermouth
Dash of Angostura Bitters
Ice
Brandied Cherry
Twist of Orange Peel
Add the first three ingredients with ice in a Martini Shaker.
Shake vigorously to chill the mixture.
Add a cherry and place it in a chilled glass.
Strain the mixed ingredients over the cherry but do not add the ice.
Rub the cut edge of the orange peel over the rim of the glass and twist it over the drink.
(This will release the oil from the orange zest into the drink)
Discard the peel.
Enjoy Responsibly!

Hey there Arctic Wolf! I’m feeling very happy and a little light headed after enjoying one of these very tasty Rum Manhattan cocktails, packs quite a punch both alcohol and flavour wise, thanks for the recipe 🙂 The orange oils from the twist really top it off. The flavour of this reminds me a lot of my favourite alcohol of all time – Muscat! Have you tried it? If you like sweet things like rum you have got to try muscat. The good (expensive) stuff is the way to go – R.L. Buller & Son Calliope Rare Muscat – made in my home state of Victoria, Australia. Mate you have got to try this stuff! Soooo tasty, I have an empty bottle (haven’t been able to afford the good stuff for a while) which i open sometimes for a good sniff of christmas pudding, raisins, coffee, chocolate, toffee. So amazing!
Now back to rum, thanks for all your reviews, i’ve just developed a taste for rum and i love it! I’ve been drinking a bottle of Beenleigh 5yr old, which is what i used in my Manhattan, and have been having a glass with coke after work sometimes. Love it straight with a few rocks of ice too, caramel and toffee flavours are delicious! After reading your reviews and looking at rumratings.com I can’t wait to try a few of your suggestions that are available here in Aus – Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva 12 Year Old is at the top of my list due to it’s cheaper price (compared to the other 2 rums i really want to try!), and very high ratings from you and others. The other 2 i would love to try are Zacapa Centenario XO and El Dorado 21 Year Old. I see you rate the El dorado 12 yr old very highly too so i might end up trying that before the 21 yr old, but i’ll certainly save some 12 to compare to the 21.
Thanks again mate, cheers!

I have tried Muscat a time or two, although when I am in the mood for sweet wine I usually go for the Port instead. (And I am glad you liked my Rum manhattan!)
