Review: Hendrick’s Orbium Gin

Posted by Arctic Wolf on October 5, 2023

Hendrick’s Gin is produced in Scotland, in the village of Girvin, Ayrshire by William Grant & Sons (who are perhaps better known for their whisky distillations than their gin).  It is made small batches using two unusual stills, a copper Bennett Still which has been dated to 1860, and a Carter-Head still made in 1948. These stills each serve a different purpose, but together they create a unique gin spirit which is infused with cucumber and rose petals.

Hendrick’s Orbium Gin is one of the new peculiar Limited Edition spirits in the Hendrick’s Cabinet of Curiosity lineup which has recently arrived in Canada sporting odd names like Flora Adora, Neptunia, Lunar and in this case Orbium Gin.

Orbium Gin was created by their Master Distiller Lesley Gracie, and released as a Limited Edition in 2019. According to the promotional materials the new Orbium is:

Henndrick’s Gin reimagined with additional extracts of Quinine, Wormwood and Lotus Blossom. Deeply and dazzlingly complex, Orbium combines surprising sweetness with a distinct lingering finish that spirals from zesty to floral, moving onto an altogether unexpected alluringly bitter climax.

Here is a link to my recently published review of the peculiar spirit:

Review: Hendrick’s Orbium Gin

“… The nose is a contrast of personalities. On one hand we notice immediately the floral impact of rose petals and Lotus Blossom, and then on the other hand we notice the herbal thrust of anise, wormwood, and quinine. Juniper is left lost somewhere in the middle of the schizophrenic personality of the gin …”

Enjoy the review which concludes my series of reviews of spirits in the Hendrick’s Cabinet of Curiosity lineup which has recently arrived in Canada.

Review: Hendrick’s Lunar Gin

Posted by Arctic Wolf on September 21, 2023

The people who make Hendrick’s Gin pride themselves on being just a little quirky, and perhaps a bit eccentric. Their offbeat website revels in the odd and the peculiar and tries to convince all who peruse the site that Hendrick’s Gin is special exactly because of the things which make it odd and peculiar.

Hendrick’s Lunar Gin is one of the new peculiar Limited Edition spirits in the Hendrick’s Cabinet of Curiosity lineup which has recently arrived in Canada sporting odd names like Flora Adora, Neptunia, Orbium and in this case Lunar Gin.

According to the promotional materials:

HENDRICK’S LUNAR GIN is deeply floral and richly aromatic. It is an intriguing combination of the refreshing and the warm, designed to be shared and savoured on an evening as the sun goes down and the moon charges the sky.

Here is a link to my review and tasting notes for the Lunar Gin:

Review: Hendrick’s Lunar Gin

“… Hendrick’s Lunar Gin is a bit of a floral bomb. It kind of reminds me of a potpourri bath mix with firm floral scents of roses, pansies, chamomile, blue iris, and touches of lemon balm. I maybe notice some juniper in the background, but it is definitely hiding …”

Please enjoy my review of the Lunar Gin and stay tuned for the upcoming review of Orbium (in a few weeks). Chimo!!

Review: Hendrick’s Neptunia Gin

Posted by Arctic Wolf on July 12, 2023

Hendrick’s Neptunia is one of the new peculiar Limited Edition spirits in the Hendrick’s Cabinet of Curiosity lineup which has recently arrived in Canada sporting odd names like Lunar, Flora Adora, Orbium and in this case Neptunia.

Hendricks Neptunia Gin was created by their Master Distiller Lesley Gracie. According to the promotional materials sent to me:

Hendricks Neptunia is a limited release that captures the magic of the sea, in a gin. Ms. Lesley Gracie’s creation is as refreshing as her muse, the mighty waves that lash the Ayrshire coast. Infused with an exquisite blend of locally sourced coastal botanicals and with a remarkable crisp citrus finish.

Here is a link to my review and tasting notes:

Review: Hendrick’s Neptunia Gin

“… Bright citrus zest and spicy coriander lead out in front of juniper with a light touch of menthol freshness. (I guess this touch of menthol is meant to represent the effervescence of the coastal sea spray.)  Cucumber and red berries wander into the flavour profile with the blush of a flowery bouquet settling into the background …”

Please enjoy my review and stay tuned for more selections from Hendrick’s Gin throughout the summer.

Review: Hendrick’s Flora Adora Gin

Posted by Arctic Wolf on June 23, 2023

Hendrick’s Gin has been adding new limited releases to compliment the brand’s growing family of unusual piny spirits. One of these new expressions, Hendrick’s Flora Adora recently arrived on my doorstep and as I promised a few weeks ago I plan to review as many of these new expressions as I can.

Flora Adora was created by Hendrick’s Gin Master Distiller Lesley Gracie. According to the promotional materials:

Within the walls of the Hendrich’s Gin Palace Garden, a most magical party is flourishing! Butterflies and bees dance in dizzy reverie, feasting on a banquet of fragrant flowers laid out especially by Ms Lesley Gracie. Now our Master Distiller wishes to invite you to join in these enchanting celebrations and introduce you to this delectable limited release Scottish Gin.

Here is a link to my latest Gin Review:

Review: Hendrick’s Flora Adora Gin

Waves of lavender. lilac and chamomile as well as scents and smalls of just about every other garden flower you can think of seem to rise up out of the glass. This is more than just a little similar to a fragrant Potpourri.

Enjoy my review of what has been the most floral spirit I have ever encountered.

Chimo!
