Tequila Review: PaQuí Tequila (Silvera)

Tequila Review: PaQuí Tequila (Silvera)

According to the information sent to me,  PaQuí is handcrafted in small batches in the town of Tequila, Mexico, where the master distiller uses a process called Selective Distillation.  This process separates the heart of the distillation resulting in a very pure tequila.  This new  brand is a result of extensive market research which sought to establish the credentials luxury tequila drinkers seek in a fine tequila and to bring such this product to market.

To quote John Chappell, Vice President of  Brand Development,

Conceived nearly three years ago, PaQuí Tequila is the result of extensive research where we learned that the high-end tequila experience is about celebrating and having fun with an authentically Mexican tequila. PaQuí,  is deeply Mexican and captures the sense of adventure

the drinker is seeking. The luxury tequila drinker also cares intensely about quality so we went out and hired the best Master Distiller to create an outstanding tequila. The result is PaQuí Silvera, a distinctive tequila that expresses the essence of blue agave with an inviting, flowery aroma and exquisite taste.”

PaQuí Tequila has recently been brought to market by Tequila Holdings, Inc., who are the distillers distillers and the importers.  It is currently available in the States of California and Texas.

I was contacted several months ago by the firm, Maury Rogoff, PR and Marketting, (I assume they were engaged by Tequila Holdings Ltd.) who sent me press release information regarding PaQuí Tequila, and requested a review of their Silvera.  The sample bottle arrived in my possession about six weeks later, and after several sessions of tasting I can now share the results of my review:

“…Upon pouring the glass I noticed a light sheen on the sides of my vessel which indicated the presence of a light oil.  The Tequila has no colour at all, that is to say,  it has, to my eye at least, perfect clarity.  The aroma from the glass is laid back.  An earthy agave scent is present, but it does not jump from the glass, rather it seeps out slowly….”

Howling Hightlight: PaQui Tequila

Be Happy!
PaQuí Tequila

PaQui TEQUILA LAUNCHES

PaQuí, whose name means “to be happy” in the native Aztec language, is a brand new luxury tequila which seeks to capture the sense of adventure and the taste of quality that the luxury tequila drinker demands. PaQui Tequila is currently available in California and Texas being brought to market by Tequila Holdings, Inc., distillers and importers of PaQuí (Pa’key).

“Conceived nearly three years ago, PaQuí Tequila is the result of extensive research where we learned that the high-end tequila experience is about celebrating and having fun with an authentically Mexican tequila,” says John Chappell, Vice President, Brand Development. ” PaQuí,  is deeply Mexican and captures the sense of adventure the drinker is seeking. The luxury tequila drinker also cares intensely about quality so we went out and hired the best Master Distiller to create an outstanding tequila. The result is PaQuí Silvera, a distinctive tequila that expresses the essence of blue agave with an inviting, flowery aroma and exquisite taste.”

PaQuí is handcrafted in small batches in the town of Tequila, Mexico, where the master distiller uses an elaborate process called Selective Distillation.  This costly process separates the heart of the distillation and selects only the superior flavors and aromas, leaving a very pure tequila of exceptional character.

The following are the distiller’s tasting notes for the PaQui Silver:

Aroma

Big fruity aroma of sweet agave.
Notes of citrus, jasmine and fresh green grass.
Complex and inviting.

Taste

A rush of sweet agave with fruity and herbal undertones including lemon, honeysuckle and white pepper.
Complex and round with some minerality.
Lively and somewhat spicy up front but finishes with gently lingering flavors.

Summary

A luxury tequila expressing the alluring aromas and flavors of blue agave through its proprietary Selective Distillation.
While perfect to sip neat, PaQui’s distinctive taste profile will shine through your favorite mixed drinks.

Tequila: Herradura Reposado

Posted by Arctic Wolf on January 12, 2010

HERRADURA Reposado

The first time I approached someone of knowledge about Tequila, I was a little apprehensive.  My few experiences with Tequila in my youth had not inspired me to become an aficionado.  In fact you could say that I avoided the Tequila section of the corner liquor store, certain from my youthful experiences that nothing good could come from those bottles.  Songs about people “jumping on the tables and shooting out the lights” did not inspire me to take a second glance,  and “wasting away again in Margarita ville” did not seem to me to be a good idea.  But curiosity finally got the better of me, as it seemed certain that the drink must have some redeeming features.  After all, people did buy and drink the stuff , did they not.  So I approached the counter at a local boutique store and asked,  “What would you suggest, if I wanted a good tequila to serve to friends.”

The bottle I was shown was Herradura Reposado.  I bought it, and have never regretted the purchase.  Here is a little background material about this Tequila and the company that makes it.

Thirty miles from Guadalajara, in the state of Jalisco, in the town of Amatitan,  is where the Herradura LDN is found.   Herradura LDN makes a true 100% Weber Blue agave Tequila.  The agave is cooked in old stone ovens, and distilled on old copper pot stills, and this tequila making tradition has won numerous awards and accolades for The Herradura company

As well, Herradura LDN  is credited on more than one website as pioneering the movement towards aging tequila in oak and making Reposado and Anejo Tequila.  Reposado means rested, and literally the implication is that this style of tequila ‘rests’ in oak.  By law Reposado tequilas must spend more than two months and less than one year in oak to be considered  “Reposado”.  The Herradura Reposado stays in oak for eleven months.

Here is my review for Herradurra Reposado Tequila:

Tequila Review: Herencia de Plata (Reposado)

Posted by Arctic Wolf on November 30, 2009

The Tequila I am reviewing today is Herencia de Plata Tequila Reposado. A sample bottle was provided to me by Westway L. LTD., who is the importer of this spirit in my home province of Alberta. I met the Operations Manager of Westway at the Edmonton Food and Wine Festival and introduced him to my review blog. Two weeks later I was asked to review their Tequila on my site and I was happy to oblige.

Herencia is apparently related to the english word ‘heritage’. And the Herencia does indeed have an impressive heritage. The tequila has been served by Mexican President, Vicente Fox to Queen Elizabeth II; it has won awards internationally as you will see when you read the review; and it was originally produced to commemorate wedding of Juan Garcia, the son of the of the company founder, Manuel Garcia.

I should note that Herencia de Plata Reposado Tequila is also a true 100 % Agave Spirit.

But that s probably enough talk for now, let me include an excerpt from the review:

“…I never imagined tequila could be so clean and crisp as this spirit is.  The agave flavour,  orange and lime citrus  notes, and the hot pepper burst are all wonderfully mixed in a crisp, sharp, but very pleasing combination.  The agave is aggressive but not in the punky manner I am accustomed to.  This is fresher and sweeter than other tequila I have previously tasted.  A very light oil allows the flavours to dance on the palate providing a delightful marzipan which sits under the spicier pepper and citrus….”
