Review: Agavero (Licor de Tequila)

Posted by Arctic Wolf on April 14, 2020

Agavero is a tequila based liqueur based upon a blend of 100% blue agave Tequila (Reposado and Anejo), with the essence of the Damiana Flower.  Lazaro Gallardo, the founder of Los Camichines Distillery, in Jalisco, Mexico, is credited with creating Agavero in 1857. It is produced as a sipping liqueur meant for those who want a lighter, sweeter and more refined Tequila experience.

Agavero is distributed in North America by Proximo Spirits who have been increasing their presence on the world stage by acquiring key brands of distilled spirits such as Matusalem Rum, and Jose Cuervo Tequila.

Agavero (Licor de Tequila) is bottled at 32 per cent alcohol by volume.

Here is a link to my full review:

Review: Agavero (Licor de Tequila)

“… The aroma is very sweet and sugary with a muted somewhat punky agave scent. There are the vaguest hints of orange citrus, passion-fruit, peppery spices, and lime. The different scents are somewhat melted together and this is not aggressive at all. The normal spicy aroma I usually encounter in Tequila has been tamed …”

Please enjoy this review and the cocktail suggestion which follows, the Agavero Margarita.

Chimo!

Review: Agavero (Licor de Tequila)

Posted by Arctic Wolf on September 2, 2013

AgaveroAgavero is a blend of 100% blue agave Tequila (Reposado and Anejo), and the essence of the Damiana Flower. This is not a true Tequila spirit but rather a Tequila based liqueur. Lazaro Gallardo, the founder of Los Camichines Distillery, in Jalisco, Mexico, is credited with creating Agavero in 1857. It is produced as a sipping liqueur meant for those who want a lighter, sweeter and more refined Tequila experience.

Previously, Agavero was distributed worldwide by the Diageo conglomerate, however the brand was recently transferred to Proximo Spirits who have been increasing their presence on the world stage by acquiring key brands of distilled spirits such as Matusalem Rum, and Jose Cuervo Tequila. Agavero (Licor de Tequila) is bottled at 32 per cent alcohol by volume, and is currently distributed in my home market by The Kirkwood Group.

Review: Agavero (Licor de Tequila)

“…The agave flavour, the orange and lime citrus notes, and the hot pepper burst are all felled into submission by a sweet sugary syrup. The result is a mild, somewhat pleasing combination of punky agave and sweet syrup…”

Please enjoy my review which includes a nice Margarita style cocktail, cheers!

Review: De la Tierre (Maple Liqueur Tequila)

Posted by Arctic Wolf on June 24, 2012

De la Tierre is an interesting fusion of 100% Blue Weber Agave Reposado Tequila, Pure Amber Maple Syrup, and flavours extracted from Ceylon Cinnamon Bark. The Reposado Tequila used is distilled in a copper pot still and aged in American Whiskey barrels; the natural Maple Syrup is preservative free and contains no GMOs or artificial flavors; and the flavours extracted from the Ceylon Cinnamon Bark are extracted through a distillation process in copper stills from off-grade bark, leaves and roots.

I received a sample of the De la Tierre from Pure Global Imports, who are the local distributor for this product.

Here is an excerpt from my review:

“… The maple syrup gives the spirit a heavy body, and the initial aroma rising from the glass is a nice mixture of maple syrup and agave. If the glass is allowed to sit the smell of cinnamon soon joins, and over time it begins to dominates the breezes above the glass… “

Review: Patrón XO Cafe

Posted by Arctic Wolf on June 24, 2012

Patrón XO Cafe is a blend of the premium Patrón Silver Tequila and the natural essence of fine coffee. According to the Patron website, the taste of this agave coffee spirit is dry, rather than sweet, with notes of chocolate and vanilla. It is suggested that the spirit is meant not only for sipping, but also as a premium cocktail ingredient, or as a delectable dessert topping.

I received a sample of the Patrón XO Cafe from Diamond Estates Wine and Spirits, who are the local distributor Patron Spirits.

Here is an excerpt from my review:

“…The initial flavour is rich with coffee and vanilla, underlain with agave. The flavour is sweet rather than dry, and there is a nice peppery bite which is working well with the overall flavour. As I sip I begin to sense that the sweetness is similar to cane syrup and the mouth-feel has that syrupy texture as well…”

As well, I have included a nice recipe from the Patron website with the review which they call, Dark Spell.

Please enjoy the recipe and the review!

Cheers!

Introducing 1921 Tequila Cream

Posted by Arctic Wolf on December 6, 2010

Today I would like to discuss yet another wonderful spirit which I encountered at the Rocky Mountain Food and Wine Festival, the 1921 Tequila Cream. I will admit that I was a skeptic when the importer for this spirit compared it favourably with other cream liqueurs like Bailey’s Irish Cream, but one sip at the festival, and I was convinced.

1921 Tequila Cream is the only Tequila Cream made in Mexico. It is filled nice cafe mocha flavours and light spices of nutmeg and cinnamon. My Rum Club found it nice when sipped neat, although most web sites I researched recommended using the Cream Tequila in cocktails as a replacement for Irish cream to give the drink a nice Mexican flair.

Ernesto Orozco of Westway L. Ltd. is the importer in my locale, and he was more than happy to supply me with a sample bottle to review.   Here is an excerpt from the review:

“…The 1921 Tequila Cream enters the mouth with a surprising and delicious combination of light tequila/agave  flavour coupled with rich cream, caramel, mocha coffee and a nutty marzipan.  Swimming within the currents of these main flavours are hints of, nutmeg, cinnamon, chocolate and hazelnut. The light nuance of agave tequila rides the currents throughout, but the agave never becomes sharp or aggressive.  I find the flavour simply outstanding….”
