And now for something different ….
J.P. Wiser’s Union 52 Canadian Whisky is a blend of mature 16-year-old Canadian whiskies with an extremely old single malt whisky that was distilled in the Highlands of Scotland. (Eighteen barrels of this whisky had been stored and aged at one of the J.P. Wiser’s warehouses in Canada since 1964. Apparently, if you go poking around in the aging warehouses in Canada, you can find all manner of strange spirits lurking around.)
Dr. Don Livermore (J.P. Wiser’s Master Blender) is apparently the creative mind behind who developed Union 52. The results of his experimentation yielded a whisky blend which consisted of 52 year-old single malt spirit (4 % of the total blend) and 16 year-old Canadian spirit (96% of the total blend).

Our #31 Canadian Whisky takes us back to the Last Mountain Distillery, Saskatchewan’s first micro distillery. I am a big fan of the husband and wife team of Colin and Meredith Schmidt and the spirits they distill. So it is no surprise to me that their Private Reserve Whisky is, according to my rankings, the best craft (micro-distilled) whisky produced in Canada for the year that is 2017.
In 2009, the folks at Yukon Brewing decided that it was time to expand their horizons, and so they formed a sister company called Yukon Spirits, grabbed a still and began to make whisky. My understanding is that they make three basic expressions, a Classic Single Malt Whisky, a Peated Single Malt Whisky, and what they call their Two Brewers Single Malt Whisky (Special Finishes). Each expression will apparently vary over time as their whisky barrels season and are re-used.
Throttle 2 Bottle (T2B) is Canadian Whisky sold in the USA by Bighorn Spirits located in Sheridan Wyoming. Bighorn Spirits has apologetically patriotic website which embraces the freedoms granted to citizens of the US by their constitution. Linked to their patriotic spirit is a true zest for social responsibility as website links the freedoms enjoyed to the duty of the people to uphold state laws with respect to responsible consumption of alcohol.
