Normally, if one takes a trip to Nepal, where it is an actual trip or as in this case an imagined one, the assumed destination would be Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world in terms of elevation. But in my case, I am heading to Kathmandu, the Capitol, to taste some rum.
Khukri XXX Rum is produced by Nepal Distilleries Private Limited who began to produce spirit in Kathmandu in 1959. In the beginning, Khuri began distilling alcohol using traditional pot stills from the late 1800s (Those initial pot stills are now on display in the distillery). However the company has modernized production and now uses a 3 column distillation and they have replaced they use of oak barrel aging with the use of special wooden oak vats for maturation of their molasses based distillate.
Here is a link to my tasting notes and scores for the No. 19 spirit in the 24 Days of Rum – The Original Rum Tasting Box:
Review: Kukri XXX Rum
“… Dark brown sugar, cinnamon toast, molasses with hints of dark licorice and menthol, and almond …”
Chimo!
Note: 24 Days of Rum – The Original Rum Tasting Box produced by 1423 World Class Spirits contains 24 handpicked rums from 24 different countries all over the world. Day 18 of my Rum Advent takes me to the Canary Islands which I discovered are a Spanish archipelago located in Atlantic Ocean about 100 kilometers off the coast of Morocco.
With only 8 days left in the 24 Days Of Rum Advent Calendar from 1423 World Class Spirits our destination is Suriname where Suriname Alcoholic Beverages N.V. (SAB) was established in 1966.
On day 16 of my Rum Advent I am travelling to Martinique to sample an Agricole Rhum from one of the most prominent Agricole producers in the Caribbean. Clément Agricole Rhum has been produced on the Isle of Martinique since 1887. Although the agricole Rhum is distilled at the Simon Distillery, the rhum is finished at Habitation Clément (built on the site of a former sugar refinery) which was purchased by Homére Clément in 1887.
On the fifteenth day of my Advent, the navigation panel for my 24 Days Of Rum journey went bonkers, and it is hard to know exactly where I have landed. The plan was to go to Trinidad, yet I discovered that XM Royal 10 Years Rum which I was given is produced by DIH Banks who are located not in Trinidad, but in Georgetown, Guyana.
