Day 7 of my 24 Days of Rum advent brings me to the Netherlands by the way of Indonesia. By The Dutch Batavia Arrack is an Indonesian Rum made from local cane distilled on the Island of Java, which was then shipped to Amsterdam to be aged and then bottled in Schiedem which is located in the Netherlands
This is a 100 % sugar-cane based spirit produced from of a range of Pot distilled spirits. Traditional Bativia Arrack uses a fermentation process includes the addition of local (red) rice. This sets it apart from traditional Rum and some jurisdictions refuse to allow Bativia Arrack to be labeled as rum even though the base material is sugar-cane.
By The Dutch Bativia Arrack has been produced in the traditional method, however, for the purpose of this review, I will refer to the spirit as both Batavia Arrack and as Indonesian Rum.
Here is a link to my tasting notes and scores for the seventh spirit in the 24 Days of Rum – The Original Rum Tasting Box:
Review: By the Dutch Batavia Arrack
Chimo!
Note: 24 Days of Rum – The Original Rum Tasting Box produced by 1423 World Class Spirits contains 24 handpicked rums from 24 different countries all over the world. It features an extraordinary opportunity to sample a wide variety of premium rums allowing you to hone in on the particular style which suits your palate. As indicated in my previously published review (here) This Rum Advent Calendar is a highly recommended gift for the rum enthusiast.

Day 6 of my 24 Days of Rum advent takes me to Destileria Espiritus del Norte a relatively new distillery located in Monterrey in northeastern Mexico where they produce Pixan Rum. Apparently Pixan comes to us linguistically from the Mayan language and it is a word which roughly means ‘Spirit which gives life‘.
Day 5 of my Rum Advent reveals Santos Dumont XO Rum from Brazil. The rum actually has a Danish producer, A.H.Riise Spirits which (in a roundabout way explained in the review) is named for Albert Heinrich Riise who established rum production of rum on Saint Thomas in the Danish West Indies (now the United States Virgin Islands) in 1838.
After a stellar start, my 24 Days of Rum Advent took a step back today with the #3 selection in he 24 Days of Rum – The Original Rum Tasting Box. I suspect many others will appreciate Pusser’s Gunpowder Proof Rum (from Guyana) much more than I did, but I promised honest reviews so I have to call this one the way I see it.
Things remain on a high note as the #2 Rum inside the 24 Days of Rum – The Original Rum Tasting Box is a winner from Peru, Ron Millonario 10 Anniversario Reserva.
