Review: Roble Viejo Maestro

Posted by Arctic Wolf on May 11, 2023

The rum which goes by the name Roble Viejo Maestro was for myself quite an enigma. If you clicked on the link to the Ron Roble website and looked around, you will find no mention of this rum. And … when I first tasted it several years ago, I could find no reference to the rum anywhere online.  That was three years ago.  Since then, it has started appearing on several retail websites, and has even garnered a few reviews on websites like Masters of Malt and Ram Ratings.

I decided that it was finally time to add my thoughts to the online world. Here is a link to my review:

Review: Roble Viejo Maestro

“… Oak spices build just a little mixing with light baking spices (cinnamon and vanilla), a light almond like nuttiness is present as is a fine spicy updraft of alcohol and wood spice. …”

Chimo! (And its good to be back!)

Review: Ron Roble Extra Anejo

Posted by Arctic Wolf on December 3, 2020

I have been working though the rum selection in 1423 World Class Spirits advent calendar 24 Days of Rum – The Original Rum Tasting Box with the aim of providing a short review for each of the selection throughout the month of December. On day three however, when I pulled out my small sample of Ron Roble’s Viejo Maestro Extra Anejo, I found myself puzzled as this rum is not listed on the Ron Roble Viejo website and search though I did, I could find only one reference to the rum on an unfamiliar Czech retail website, and that website did not even have a bottle shot to show me. My conclusion is that the Maestro must be either very new, or an exclusive bottling of 1423 World Class Spirits (or both). I decided that it might be best to save my thoughts on the Maestro until I could gather better information. So I am leaving that bottle sealed and have decided to repost my review for Ron Roble’s selection from last year in the Calendar Advent, Ron Roble Viejo Extra Anejo.

Ron Roble Viejo Rums are produced in Venezuela through the artistry of Ron Noble’s Master Rum Blender, Giorgio Melis, a Chemical Engineer with more than 50 years experience in the spirits industry. The company’s rums are produced from from locally grown sugar cane molasses using a 5 column distillation process and aged in a traditional manner is oak barrels without topping the oak barrels or replenishment of the Angel’s share.

According to the company website, their best reserves from 8 to 12 Years are blended to create the Ron Roble Extra Anejo Rum.

Here is a link to my review published last year on December 21:

“… Oak spices deepen and thicken, toffee and dark brown sugar come into focus mixing with baking spices, there are hints of marzipan and apricot jam. The breezes are very enticing …”

Chimo!

24 Days of Rum (#21) – Ron Roble Extra Anejo (Venezuela)

Posted by Arctic Wolf on December 21, 2019

With three days left in my rum advent I am travelling to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, a country on the northern coast of South America which has seen more than its fair share of political turmoil over the past few years. Despite these troubles Venezuela has maintained its high standards in the production of rum as my recent tasting of the magnificent Ron Roble Extra Anejo will attest.

Here is a link to my tasting notes and scores for the No. 23 spirit in the 24 Days of Rum – The Original Rum Tasting Box:
