Big Black Dick – It Comes in Different Flavours

Posted by Arctic Wolf on June 12, 2023

A way back in September of 2010, I was invited to join a local rum club called The First Chapter of the Edmonton Rum Chums. The purpose of the club was to have a group of like minded individuals get together about once a month exploring the wide diversity within the world of rum. I have to admit that I was not prepared for what I was to happen at that first meeting, for it was at that gathering that I had my first taste of Big Black Dick!  The Dark Rum that originated on the Cayman Islands of course.

Of course I wrote a review of Big Black Dick Dark Caribbean Rum on my website soon after my experience with the strange spirit. The review soon became somewhat infamous, leaving my fans speechless, and bringing a whole new group of curious persons to my website.

Recently I revisited the review, updated it with some current information regarding its provenance, and adding the important information that it now comes in six different flavours: Light, Dark, Vanilla, Coconut, White Chocolate, and Dark Chocolate.

Here is a link to my updated review:

Review: Big Black Dick Dark Caribbean Rum

“… Big Black Dick ha a dark bronze colour. There is a scent of pungent smoke and lurking leathery tobacco with burnt molasses scents. Sugary baking spices, dried fruit (raisins and prunes), allspice and cloves all find their way out of the glass and into my nostrils …”

Enjoy the review, but remember I have only reviewed one flavour, it comes in six different flavours!

Chimo!

Review: Crown Royal Black Canadian Whisky

Posted by Arctic Wolf on March 7, 2013

SAM_0547 Crown Royal BlackCrown Royal Canadian Whisky is currently produced in Gimli, Manitoba, at the Crown Royal Distillery. The distillery and the brand are owned by the spirits conglomerate, Diageo, and I think it is fair to say that Crown Royal is Diageo’s flagship Canadian Whisky brand. A couple of years ago Crown Royal Black was introduced as an addition to the Crown Royal family of whiskies. This new Crown Royal Black is a bit of a departure from the rest of the Crown Royal line-up featuring a stronger bourbon profile in the whisky through the use of new charred oak barrels during a portion of the maturation process of the whisky. It is bottled at 45% alcohol by volume and is intended as a robust alternative to their best-selling Crown Royal Whisky.

Review: Crown Royal Black Canadian Whisky

“… I smell rich oak spices melded with caramel toffee, some lovely bourbon-like honeycomb and vanilla with hints tobacco and rye spices and a light influence of maple and chocolate. As I let the glass breathe, some rum-like brown sugar aromas evolve and I seem to sense some light corn accents in the breezes as well. The Crown Royal Black appears to be well-balanced and quite robust in the glass …”

Please enjoy the review and the cocktail suggestion included, The Long Autumn.
